Chitika Data Solutions Engineers Talk Mobile Monday Boston

Here at Chitika we love to get out of the office, network and most importantly learn something new! Attending special events, speaking panels and enrichment programs are passion points for everyone in the Chitika family.  We are fortunate enough to be located in a region that is one of the epicenters for tech and innovation.  This provides us with ample opportunity to constantly mix, mingle and share ideas with some of the industry’s top talent.

On April 23rd, a group of Chitika Data Solution Engineers attended Mobile Monday Boston, one of Boston’s biggest monthly technology networking events. This particular session dubbed “Mobile Pitch Challenge” allowed some of Boston’s newest early stage mobile startups to pitch a panel of mobile investors, including; Antonio Rodriguez of Matrix Partners, Jeff Glass of Bain Capital Ventures and Jennifer Lum of Apricot Capital.

In the words of our Data Solutions Engineers, here is how the evening turned out:

In front of an audience of over 200 industry professionals, a group of startups made their pitch. Participating companies included Thumbs Up, PerscribableApps, cognet mobile, 29GO, RepeatReceipt, Spectacle and Codex Development. PerscribableApps came out on top, winning the most votes of the evening. Their mission is to improve care for those living with a chronic illness by providing their users with collaborative resources to understand their own condition -not just their diagnosis- with the help of their Doctor.

PerscribableApps was the most popular pitch among our group as well, given their intent to utilize big data to create a smooth and regular flow of information and feedback between mental health patients and care providers, standing to make a huge impact not only on the market but to the quality of services offered to patients today. We especially liked PerscribableApps because they want to change the world, not just an industry – just like us.

Hope to see you at the next event!

Chitika Analysis: Bing Traffic vs. Google and Yahoo!

We at Chitika are quite fond of search engines: since all of our ads serve only to search traffic, they’re our bread and butter in the online world. So with Microsoft’s new Bing decision engine making so much noise, we thought we’d take a closer look at the clickthrough rates of visitors from the three major search players: Yahoo!, Google, and Bing.

As it turns out, Bing users are over 50% more likely to click an ad on your site than Google users. You can check out the full results of our research in TechCrunch’s article, “Are Bing Users Twice As Likely To Click On An Ad Than Google Users?” Enjoy!

Chitika at MIT Enterprise Forum

The MIT Entrepreneurial Forum, one of the more interesting groups of smart people on the East Coast, met Wednesday night to discuss one big question: “Is there still money in the advertising revenue model?”  Our own Jeff Sable, VP of Publisher Sales, was invited to sit on the panel, speak, and answer questions.  Video was taken.  Answers were given.  Awesomeness was achieved.  Enjoy the video!

For more information on the event, head over to the event page, and make sure to check out the MITEF if you’re anywhere near New England and are interested in entrepreneurship.

Expert tips from JenSense at Chitika's SearchAppalooza

Jennifer Slegg of JenSense.com was one of four star panelists who judged a search application contest sponsored by Chitika at SES NY, Chitika|SearchAppalooza.

The video below captures her contribution as a contextual advertising expert, critiquing the app developers on how well they were able to create search app’s that have what it takes to stand out in today’s competitive market for creative tools.

Big thanks to Jennifer Slegg for her participation in this successful event!

Winners of the SES NY 09 SearchAppalooza contests

Once again, Chitika managed to uphold their reputation for thinking outside-the-box by putting one of our Chitika-ites in an owl costume at SES NY 09. He was featured in video interviews filmed by me, @KarlaChitika during the conference (which will be featured on the blog very soon), as well as put a smile on everyone’s face who came to the Chitika booth.

SearchAppalooza Mania!
Tuesday afternoon many gathered in the Grand Ballroom for our much anticipated SearchAppalooza ‘Search Apps Contest’ where 5 finalists presented their apps to Jennifer Slegg (CEO Jensense.com), Larry Cornett (VP Search Yahoo!), Rob Griffin (SVP Search Marketing MediaContacts), and Don Dodge (Business Development Emerging Business Team Microsoft Corporation).

All of the apps were really great. If I were judging it would have been a very difficult decision, but the judges (who are clearly more thourough than I am) found some flaws and a winner was closen rather fast. The winner of the “Kick-ass Search App Contest” was:

Tom Wilde of: Everyzing.com

He received a Kindle2 sponsored by Yahoo!

The coolest thing about Tom’s app was how it created a way to take, otherwise unsearchable, video content and convert it into searchable text. This could ultimately make way for a whole new outlook and marketing perspective centered around search content in video. Amazing!

**The SearchAppalooza video will also be featured on the blog early next week- so be on the lookout for that, which features all the presentations from the app finalists.

Twitterers also had the chance to participate by Tweeting their favorite app finalist to be in the running for a Kindle2 sponsored by Chitika. That winner was:

Alex Winton, @doctoroak

And lastly, Chitika hosted their near-legendary, 3rd-Annual “Cookie Eating Contest” at the end of SearchAppalooza to win an HP 1000 Netbook. Eleven contestants gathered to eat as many Oreo (double-stuffed) cookies as they could in 2 minutes. There was a tie! 12 cookies ate by two people (who would of thought)- so they then challenged eachother to a Oreo face-off. In the end, 18 Oreos was consumed by our winner!
You can watch it all go down in our video here:
