Chitika | Pulse: Super Bowl Loses Ad Budgets to Internet

According to Internet Marketing News Watch, the, “US Internet advertising revenue will grow from $16.9 billion in 2006 to $31.3 billion in 2011,” which reflects an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.5%.

The power of branding on the internet is well reflected by the Apple brand. While Apple stayed out of this year’s Super Bowl ad line-up; the brand’s popularity among online consumers did not waiver.

Out of Chitika‘s top-50 products ranked in the past week, Apple’s brand represents 20%; and thereby represents an impressive 31% of relative total clicks generated by the top-50.

Despite an impressive audience reach and it’s illusive advertising industry prestige, televised Super Bowl commercials remain risky ventures. Following last year’s Super Bowl, Garmin received negative publicity after being named the worst among scores of Super Bowl ads broadcast.

Chitika Pulse – Gaming Brand Buzz

Do expensive corporate branding efforts and promotions, such Microsoft’s 2008 Xbox initiatives, influence gaming brand preference among consumers?

Demand for gaming hardware and software has been consistently high on Chitika’s network as of late.

Surprisingly, Sony—not Microsoft—dominates as the most popular overall gaming brand on Chitika’s network (representing gaming hardware and software collectively). The Sony brand accounts for 45% of the relative top thirteen gaming products ranked on Chitika’s network in the past week. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 comes in as second most popular brand, representing 28.07% of the relative top five.

Chitika’s system does however report Microsoft to be number one among online consumers when it comes to gaming software. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare, Halo 3, and Rainbow Six : Vegas, constitute 46.32% of the relative top eight gaming software products ranked.

Chitika’s online consumers also favor the Sony brand when it comes to gaming hardware (consoles and accessories). Sony’s Playstation PSP, Playstation 40 GB, Playstation 80 GB, and MSX-M2GN 2GH Memory Stick Duo Pro account for 71.93% of the relative top-five gaming hardware products ranked on Chitika’s network over the past week.

Chitika Pulse: Pre-PMA Buzz Guides Market Trends

  

It has long been common practice among digital photography manufacturers to announce new products in the time leading up to the PMA International Convention, held this year in Las Vegas from January 31st to February 2nd. According to digital photography review site 1001 Noisy Cameras, “it’s never too early to speculate.”

With PMA around the corner there is good news for bloggers; current market trends reflecting popular digital camera brands are consistent across the board. This data reports digital cameras marketed towards the prosumers; priced in the $100 to $1,000 range.

Amongst the current pre-PMA speculation, Chitika’s network reports Canon to be the most popular digital camera brand. Canon’s EOS 400 D, PowerShot A720IS, PowerShot S3 IS, and EOS 400 D Rebel Xti, collectively represent 55.91% of the relative top ten ranked on Chitika’s network over the past week.

Chitika Pulse – Forget Smart, It's All About the Music

Motorola took the lead as number one brand, winning in two categories at the annual CNET sponsored Best of CES Awards. Chitika’s network reflects the same trend, according to data queried over the past week, as Motorola was the most popular cellphone/smartphone brand among Chitika’s online consumers.

The Motorola Rokr E8, premiering to the public for the first time at this year’s CES, won awards for both Best of CES’s “people’s voice”, and, “best new cellphone or smartphone,” categories.

Evaluating data queried from January 7th to January 14th Chitika ranked the top five most popular cellphones and smartphones based on clicks generated through Chitika’s system and then analyzed each product ranked into relative percentages.

Apple’s iPhone 8gb came in as number 1 on Chitika’s network, representing a total 28.47% of the relative top five. However, three of the five cellphones/smartphones ranked in this study were Motorola brand, representing a total 56.04% of the relative top five; Motorola therefore dominates Chitika’s most popular cellphone/smartphone brand. The RAZR V3 came in as number two, the Motorola ROKR E1 came in at number three, and the Motorola RAZR V3i ranked as number five.

I am thrilled to introduce ChitikaPulse. ChitikaPulse is a weekly publication that highlights emerging trends in online advertising and merchandising in the blogosphere. We will be covering a wide range of topics related to online branding, e-commerce, retail in the long tail and direct merchandising within the blogosphere and the social networks.

Over the past five years Chitika has established itself in being the leading blog advertising network. Now, through analyzing queried data from our reporting systems, Chitika will further persevere to additionally serve as a leading measurement resource and data analysis medium for the online marketing industry.

In this first edition, we analyzed our network data collected during the 2007 holiday shopping season and summarized the top products.

As expected mp3 players were the most popular product on Chitika’s network for the 2007 holiday season. While apple products took the lead as most popular brand among Chitika’s online consumers, unexpectedly the Sansa Flagship SDMX mp3 player beat out the iPod suite (iPod Nano 4gb and iPod Video ranked 3rd and 4th in our top ten line-up).
